Bandits Comeback to win 20-13 PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 22 July 2008

The Boston Bandits (2-0) opened their 2008 NEFL schedule with a come from behind win over the Worcester Wildcats in Worcester, 20-13. After the game was delayed due to lightning, the Bandits moved the ball to the Wildcat 30 yard line before the drive stalled. The Wildcats took over and used a relentless run game that they would feature all night, moving down to the 1 yard line before RB David Bugan dove in for the go ahead touchdown. The Bandit offense still could not get on track and the Wildcats up their lead in the second quarter when QB Frank Desiderio tried to sneak in from the 1 yard line but fumbled the ball; his center Paul Lockwood, however, recovered for the touchdown. The extra point was blocked, but the Wildcats led 13-0 5 minutes into the second quarter. The Bandits tried to get on the board before the half but failed on a 4th down conversion at midfield with 2 minutes left. The Wildcats’ attempt to up the lead before the half was ended when LB Chris Brady sacked Desiderio. The Bandit offense finally got on track, culminating in a 32 yard touchdown catch by WR Jay Blot from QB Clarzell Pearl. Ryan DeCamp’s PAT cut the lead to 13-7.The Bandit defense would hold off the Wildcats the entire second half behind sacks from DE Will Singleton and DB Johnny May. May would also strip a Wildcat player of the ball, and took off to the races for a 55 yard return that set up the tying score when Pearl found Blot again for a 15 yard touchdown strike. The Wildcats blocked the extra point, leaving the score at 13-13. The Bandit KO team pinned the Wildcats deep in their territory and LB Marcus Merritt dragged down a Wildcat runner inches from a safety, forcing a punt. The Bandits appeared poised to take the lead when JD Brooks turned the corner on a run, but a fumbled snap on the next play thwarted the drive. The Bandits defense continued to hold off the Wildcats, allowing their offense another opportunity with less than 2 minutes left. That was enough time for Pearl to connect for a third time with Blot on a 29 yard game winning touchdown on third down with 12 seconds left in the game, and a 20-13 rain soaked victory. The Bandits next play the So. Maine Raging Bulls at English HS in Jamaica Plain on Saturday, July 26th at 2:30PM. The Bulls are coming off an opening game victory 15-14 against the New England Hawks and an undefeated preseason.
