The Bandits (7-3) ended their regular season on a winning note by defeating the Mill City Maulers in a shoot-out 38-29. The Maulers came into the game needing a win for a shot at the playoffs and gave it everything they had. The Bandits opened the scoring when DB Adam Blake intercepted the Maulers’ first possession drive, taking it 84 yards for a touchdown. The Bandits added to their lead early in the second quarter, when QB Clarzell Pearl connected with WR Daryl Hodge for the first of 3 touchdown strikes on the night, and a 13-0 lead. The Maulers, led by QB Alexis Colon cut the margin to 13-7 when hit found Wilson Gonzalez for a 35 yard score. Pearl connected with Hodge and Colon found Andy Howard for scores, putting the game at 25-14 at the half. The Bandit Dance team, who rode into the game on the back seats of the Ruff Ryders, entertained the ground during the halftime. The Bandits picked up where they left off when Hodge’s touchdown made it 31-14. Chris Brady’s interception thwarted the Maulers’ attempt to answer that score. Pearl connected with Darryl Sweet for the first of two 2 yard touchdown catches in the second half, and a 38-14 lead. The Bandits got a balanced attack on the ground from JD Brooks, JT Harold and a 50+ yard burst from Daryl Barnes. The Maulers would not go quietly into the offseason, putting up two scores in the fourth quarter, as Colon found Tom Bennett for a score and Angel Heredia rumbled in from 2 yards out, cutting the lead to 38-29, but it was too little, too late. The Bandits advance to the NEFL Playoffs with an Oct. 3rd rematch against the Bay State Renegades (7-3) at Medway HS at 7PM.
