Bandits Get Revenge Versus Renegades PDF Print E-mail

The Bandits (8-3) defeated the Bay State Renegades in the first round of the playoffs in dramatic fashion 13-6 in 2OTs. The Renegades got on the board first when Mike Murray found Amari Docen open for a 15 yard touchdown pass. The extra point hit the upright leaving the score at 6-0 in the first quarter. The game remained that way until just over two minutes were left in the game. JD Brooks scored from 1 yard out, but the extra point failed as the snap was high, knotting the game at 6-6. The Bandits staved off a last Renegade drive in the last seconds of the regulation time. The Renegades would threaten to score in the overtime and continued to pin the Bandits deep in their territory. After the first OT, the game moved to NCAA rules, where each team has an opportunity to score from the opposing 25 yard line. The Bandit got a key first down, when Clarzell Pearl connected with Lamar Newsome to the 12 yard line. John McElrath split the defense and ran untouched into the end zone. Miguel’s Oliva’s PAT gave the Bandits a 13-6 lead. The Renegades had their chance, and the Bandit defense, who performed admirably the whole game, stopped the ‘Gades’ on 4th down with an interception by Alvin edwards (his 9th on the year) to seal the victory. The Bandits next move onto the semi-finals against the CT Bearcats (12-1) at Sheehan HS in Wallingford, CT Saturday, Oct. 10th at 7PM
