Bandits Beat the Clippers
Sunday, 31 July 2011

The Bandits (3-0) won despite being their own worst enemy against the Whaling City Clippers, 22-6. The Bandits had four turnovers in the first half, but thanks to the Alvin Edwards punts that put the Clippers deep in their zone that led to a muffed punt attempt and safety, the Bandits led 2-0 at the half. The Bandits would up the lead in the third quarter when John McElrath ran it in from 7 yards for an 8-0 advantage. Ty Brooks would intercept the Clipper’s next possession returning it into the red-zone and setting the table for his brother JD Brooks to run it in from 11 yards out. Miguel Oliva’s kick put the score at 15-0 to close out the quarter. John McElrath would score a second time in the fourth quarter after a 28 yard dash, getting hit as he entered the end-zone. The Clippers would score on a series of passes but the efforts came up short. The Bandits next take on the Lowell Nor’easter (3-0) at English HS on Saturday, August 6th at 7PM.

Bandits Win Home Opener
Sunday, 24 July 2011

The Bandits (2-0) defeated the No. Shore Generals in the sweltering afternoon heat by the score of 26-9. After a scoreless first quarter, the Bandits saw a punt snap dribble out of the end-zone, giving the Generals an unusual 2-0 lead. The Bandits would hold off the Generals’ offense after the kick, and took over the lead when JT Harold raced 55 yards for a touchdown. After Jeff Similien’s PAT gave the Bandits a 7-2 score. The lead would be short lived as the Generals took the ensuing KO 95 yards for a touchdown, regaining the lead 9-7. The Bandits would bounce right back as Mike Murray found Daryl Hodge in the end-zone for a 28 yard pass, giving the Bandits a 13-9 lead at the half. The Bandit defense would not allow the Generals to score all game behind an interception by Anthony Thomas and a fumble recoveries by Daniel Gibson & Daryl Hodge. The Bandits opened up the lead on Hodge’s second touchdown reception from Murray from the 35 yard line. The Bandits would lead 19-9. The Bandits put the game away in the fourth quarter when Murray found Dave Racca alone for a 45 yard catch and run. Similien’s PAT put the final score at 26-9. The Bandits defense pitched a shut-out but the Bandit offense knows there is work to do, failing to score twice on goal to go opportunities. Next up for the Bandits are the Whaling City Clippers (1-1) at Walsh Field in New Bedford, MA Saturday, July 30th at 6:30PM.

Bandit Defense Swarms Colonials

The Bandits won their opening game on the road against the Colonials 33-0. Boston pounded the ball consistently throughout the first quarter, ultimately opening up the field for quarterback Mike Murray, who was 14 for 18 for 279 yards and four touchdowns.

After the Colonials opened the contest by going three-and-out, Boston took the ball down the throat of the Metrowest defense, scoring on a four-run drive that saw John McElrath take the ball in from 25 yards out, giving Boston an early 6-0 advantage after the Bandits missed the extra point.

While the Bandits running attack would pick up tough yards throughout, the star of the show from that point forward was Murray, who ran a five-play, 90-yard drive to close out the second quarter, connecting with Amauri Docen over the middle for a 38-yard gain before hitting Darryl Hodge in the end zone from 30 yards out. Boston failed to pick up the extra point, but headed into halftime with a 12-0 lead.

The Colonials were picked off four times at the hands of cornerback Darryl Hodge and once by Alvin Edwards.

Murray continued his assault, hitting Calvin Belfon in stride for a 73-yard gain before connecting with Docen for a touchdown to give Boston an 18-0 advantage.

Omar Phillip and Murray combined for another highlight-reel play in the fourth quarter, when the Bandits quarterback hit Phillip going over the middle. Some fancy footwork resulted in a 59-yard touchdown that extended the Boston lead to 25-0.

Murray capped the scoring in the final three minutes with a touchdown to Curtis Taylor from 23 yards out. The two-point conversion by Bobby Simpson gave Boston a 33-0 lead.

The Bandits next face the No. Shore Generals, winners of their opening game vs Whaling City 30-15, at English HS in Jamaica Plain, Saturday, July 23rd at 3PM.
