Bandits Kick Wildcats
Sunday, 21 September 2008

The Boston Bandits (7-2) held off the Worcester Wildcats 15-8 in a game that went down to the wire. The Bandits opened the scoring on the first of three field goals by Ryan DeCamp after the offense’s drive sputtered inside the red zone. They settled for a 21yd FG and a 3-0 lead. The Bandits would add another field goal before the half from 35 yards to put the halftime score at 6-0. The Bandit defense continued to harass the Wildcat offense in the third quarter and when Romel Howard stripped the Wildcat QB, Basil Ledgister pounced on the ball but was dragged down before he could make his break for the end zone. The Bandits would take advantage of the turnover as Clarzell Pearl found Lamar Newsome open across the back of the end zone for a 27 yard touchdown reception. The Bandits’ 2 point conversion failed. The Wildcats responded quickly when QB Mark Ayotte found a streaking Jamaal Atkins down the sideline for a 75 yard touchdown strike. The two point conversion cut the Bandit lead to 12-8. The Bandits appeared to have scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter when Clarzell Pearl found Sydney Jean-Felix in the end zone; however, the referee ruled that Pearl had crossed the line of scrimmage just as he was throwing the ball. The Bandits would have to settle for a 23 yard field goal and a 15-8 advantage. The Bandits appeared to have the game won forcing the Wildcats to punt near midfield on a fourth and 15, however, the punter threw a pass to Atkins flying down the sideline from the gunner position and a Wildcat first down. He would be tackled and forced out of the game due to an injury. The Wildcats could not take advantage of the new set of downs, failing to convert on the next fourth down, allowing the Bandits to come away with the victory. The Bandits next play the Weymouth Sharks on Saturday, Sept 27th at 7PM at English HS in Jamaica Plain.

Bandits Ground Hawks
Tuesday, 16 September 2008
The Boston Bandits (6-2) snapped their 2 game losing streak by defeating the New England Hawks on the road 33-14. Things did not start well for the Bandits as the Hawks took their opening possession the length of the field for a quick 7-0 lead when Stephan Lewis scored on an 11yard TD run. The Bandit offense went a quick three and out but the defense was able to thwart the next Hawk scoring drive at the Bandit 10 yard line. The Bandits marched 90 yards down the field and tied the score when Clarzell Pearl found Tyjuan Greene open in the end zone on an 11 yard TD reception. Ryan DeCamp’s PAT tied the score at 7-7, which would be the score the half. The Bandits got the lead early in the third quarter when Pearl found a streaking Marcus Juba down the sideline for a 65yard catch and run. The PAT was blocked leaving the advantage at 13-7. The Hawks came right back and regained the lead 14-13 when QB Jeff Gregoire found Mark Roberts open for a 36 yard TD combination. The Bandits, however, would come right back and take the lead back when Pearl found Olanzo Butler open for a short 2 yard touchdown pass. Pearl would connect with Greene on the 2pt conversion, giving the Bandits a 21-14 lead they would never relinquish. Paul Yang would recover the Hawks’ fumbled KOR, setting up the Bandits in Hawk territory. Pearl found Marcus Merritt open in the end zone for a 9 yard strike. The missed PAT left the score at 27-14. Juba would intercept an errant Hawk pass in the early in the fourth. The Bandits would close out the scoring when JD Brooks wrestled a pass away from a Hawk defender in the end zone for a 22yard TD reception from Pearl and a 33-14 final score. The Bandit offense had an effect run attack behind Brooks, John McElrath and Daryl Barnes. While the defense shut down the Hawks for the majority of the second half behind stout D-line play by Hoave Walters, Miguel Oliva and John DeAngelis, relentless pass rushing from Cedric Warren, and run stopping linebackers Terrence Pennington, Marcus Merritt, Chris Brady and Jason Milton. The Bandits next face the Worcester Wildcats (4-3), winners of 4 of their last 5 games on Saturday, Sept.20th at 7PM at English HS in Jamaica Plain.

Nor'easter shut down Bandits
Tuesday, 26 August 2008

The Boston Bandits (5-2) dropped their second straight game of the season, this time a 21-0 loss in Lowell against the Nor’easter (4-2). The Bandit wasted a long kickoff return by Omar Philip to the Lowell 30 yard line, unable to move the ball any closer in the four downs. While the Bandit defense played well and held off the Nor’easter most of the night, the offense could never get in rhythm. Lowell would score late in the first quarter when Raul Brown found Brad Moultrie open for a 15 yard strike and a 7-0 lead which would be the only score of the half. Lowell would score in the third quarter when Willie Ryan slid and caught an errant pass on the ground, being downed by the would-be receiver. Unfortunately the referee didn’t see it which allowed Ryan to get up and scamper 45 yards by the on looking Bandits offense. Longtime NEFL veteran Rich Grasso’s kick upped the lead to 14-0. The Bandits were left scratching their heads when a roughing the kicker and pass interference calls were missed which would have prolonged drives. The Bandit defense played tough all night with big stops by Marcus Juba, Lormeus Leighton, Terrence Pennington, Chris Brady, Miguel Oliva, Cedric Warren and the rest of the defensive squad. The Nor’easter would tack on another in the last minutes when Shawn Murphy ran in from the 5 yard line capping the scoring. The Bandits will regroup after the Labor Day weekend and take on the Mill City Maulers at Veteran’s Stadium, Lawrence on Saturday, September 3rd at 7PM.
