Bandits Win Back to Back NEFL Titles
Saturday, 21 October 2006
The Boston Bandits (12-2) defeated the Lowell Nor’easter in the NEFL AAA Championship game by the score of 17-16. The Bandits took their opening possession 85 yards methodically down field, culminating in a 32 yards touchdown pass from QB Clarzell Pearl to WR Sydney Jean-Felix on a deflected ball. The Nor’easter came right back but appeared stalled and would have to settle for a FG when a Bandit offside and personal foul gave them a first and goal. QB John Speidel took advantage connecting with JR Richardson for the tying score. Lowell would take the lead in the second quarter when Speidel found Chris Degree over the middle for a 29 yard catch and run, and a 14-7 lead. The Bandits answered with a 19 yard FG by Andrew Nelson and were poised to close the gap further when they recovered a fumble in Nor’easter territory with under two minutes to go in the half. Their 29 yard FG just sailed to the right as the half expired. The Bandits got back into the lead in the third quarter after recovering another fumble. The RB JD Brooks would scramble near the goal line but was stymied and lateralled the ball back to Pearl who bulldozed his way into the end zone from 5 yards out for a 17-14 lead. The Bandits stopped the Nor’easter’s next possession when Marcus Juba intercepted a pass, but the Bandits were forced to punt. The punt snap was bobbled and with a bevy of Nor’easters bearing down on the punter, Nelson threw it out of the end zone, giving the Lowell a safety, but preserving the Bandit lead at 17-16. The Nor’easter would get one final try at regaining the lead but their 44 yard FG as time expired fell short to the right. This is the Boston Bandits’ fourth NEFL title in six years and it's a back to back Championship in 2005-2006.

Bandits Overcome and Win Metro Title
Thursday, 14 September 2006
The Boston Bandits (11-2) traveled to Connecticut and defeated the Thunder (8-3) by the score of 16-6. With the victory, the Bandits will face off against the Lowell Nor’easter in the NEFL AAA Championship for the fifth time.

The Bandits entered the Metro Division Finals against the Thunder with heavy hearts, having just learned of one of their teammates’ murder the day before. Rookie Jeff Igbineweka #94 was stabbed to death on Thursday night. The Bandits wore a black strip on their helmets with his number on it as they took the field for the playoff game. The Bandits bobbled the opening kick-off and had to start the initial possession on their own 3 yard line. The Bandits would march down the field assisted by a big run by punter Andrew Nelson near midfield to continue the drive, which got all the way to the Thunder 3 yard line before the Bandits settled on a 25 yard FG by Nelson. The Bandit defense shut down the Thunder’s first possession and recovered the ball in the Thunder red zone after a bad punt snap. JD Brooks would find the end zone from 2 yards out. The extra point was blocked leaving the score at 9-0. Both teams’ defenses kept the offenses in check the rest of the half. In the third quarter, the Thunder returned a punt deep into Bandit territory and with an additional penalty, were threatening to get on the scoreboard. The Bandits’ defense would hold firm on a spectacular goal line stand, thwarting the Thunder’s four attempts from the 1 yard line. Stout line play from Romel Howard, Corey Lovings, Pat Norton, and Tyrone Mungo along with LB’s Mike Massey, Will Singleton, Marcus Merritt and Jason Milton turned back every Thunder attempt. The Bandits took over on the 6 inch line, moved the ball out to the 25 before having to punt. A bad snap rolled to the punt and was eventually recovered in the end zone for a touchdown. The Thunder two point conversion failed putting the score at 9-6. Daryl Hodge made a nice return to midfield and a big reception by Olanzo Butler put the Bandits inside the Thunder 10 yard line. Clarzell Pearl found Jay Blot in the corner for a touchdown. Nelson's point after upped the margin to 16-6. The Thunder would run a no huddle offense and got to the Bandit 30 yard line before failing on downs.

The Boston Bandits will travel to Cawley Stadium in Lowell on Saturday, Oct.21st at 7pm to face off, once again, with the Lowell Nor’easter for the NEFL title.
