The Boston Bandits (7-2) held off the Worcester Wildcats 15-8 in a game that went down to the wire. The Bandits opened the scoring on the first of three field goals by Ryan DeCamp after the offense’s drive sputtered inside the red zone. They settled for a 21yd FG and a 3-0 lead. The Bandits would add another field goal before the half from 35 yards to put the halftime score at 6-0. The Bandit defense continued to harass the Wildcat offense in the third quarter and when Romel Howard stripped the Wildcat QB, Basil Ledgister pounced on the ball but was dragged down before he could make his break for the end zone. The Bandits would take advantage of the turnover as Clarzell Pearl found Lamar Newsome open across the back of the end zone for a 27 yard touchdown reception. The Bandits’ 2 point conversion failed. The Wildcats responded quickly when QB Mark Ayotte found a streaking Jamaal Atkins down the sideline for a 75 yard touchdown strike. The two point conversion cut the Bandit lead to 12-8. The Bandits appeared to have scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter when Clarzell Pearl found Sydney Jean-Felix in the end zone; however, the referee ruled that Pearl had crossed the line of scrimmage just as he was throwing the ball. The Bandits would have to settle for a 23 yard field goal and a 15-8 advantage. The Bandits appeared to have the game won forcing the Wildcats to punt near midfield on a fourth and 15, however, the punter threw a pass to Atkins flying down the sideline from the gunner position and a Wildcat first down. He would be tackled and forced out of the game due to an injury. The Wildcats could not take advantage of the new set of downs, failing to convert on the next fourth down, allowing the Bandits to come away with the victory. The Bandits next play the Weymouth Sharks on Saturday, Sept 27^th at 7PM at English HS in Jamaica Plain.
